Sizing Guide for Motorcycle Helmets

Getting your motorcycle helmet size right is not only a matter of comfort, it's paramount to your safety as well. A snug, uniform fit plays a critical role in protecting your head. The following steps will help you find a motorcycle helmet that fits you perfectly.

Break out the tape

It's time to measure your head. If you know your hat size, use that as a starting point. But to ensure a perfect fit, we recommend obtaining an accurate measurement of your head before you select your motorcycle helmet size.

Begin by measuring your head on a horizontal plane at its largest circumference. This is usually about 1 inch above your eyebrows and ears. Using a cloth measuring tape, take several measurements and try to obtain repeated measurements of the largest circumference.

Use this chart to find the helmet size that matches the circumference of your head.

Circumference (inches) Hat Size
21-1/46-3/4
227
22-3/87-1/8
22-3/47-1/4
23-1/87-3/8
23-1/27-1/2
23-7/87-5/8
24-1/47-3/4
24-3/47-7/8

If your head circumference measurement falls between the numbers listed on the chart, we recommend the smaller helmet size. Motorcycle helmets should fit snugly but comfortably. They should not move from side to side or up and down when the chinstrap is secured. Remember, this guide should be used only as a reference, as head shapes and sizes vary widely.

Getting a custom fit

Many motorcycle helmets allow you to change out the headliners and cheek pads. If the fit is not as comfortable as you would like, try switching these with larger and smaller sizes. You can inexpensively fine-tune the fit of a motorcycle helmet this way. A proper fit will feel uniformly snug around your entire head. This is of the utmost importance, as motorcycle helmets are designed to offer full protection only when sized correctly.
