Motorcycle Insurance Tips
These are some of the common sense things you can do to lower your motorcycle insurance costs.
- Take a Motorcycle Safety Class
Many insurance companies will offer you a discount if you've taken, and passed, a motorcycle safety course. That doesn't mean spending an afternoon with your uncle who's ridden Harleys all his life. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation holds courses and events all across the country. Visit http://www.msf-usa.org/ for more information. - Store Your Bike in a Garage
If your bike is kept overnight in a garage your rates should be lower. - Always Be Comparing
This is the ABC of motorcycle insurance: always be comparing. When your motorcycle insurance comes up for renewal, get online and see if you can get a better rate elsewhere. And before you buy a policy, make sure you've gotten quotes from at least three or four different agencies. - Drive Safely and Don't Speed
This one seems obvious, but not following it is the surest way to hike your insurance costs. Aside from age, which is beyond your control, staying out of accidents and not getting speeding tickets (or DWIs) gives you the best chance of finding cheap motorcycle insurance. - Join the AMA
Joining the American Motorcycle Association won't always get you a discount, though some insurance agencies will take AMA membership as an indication of a safer rider. If not, you can always look into the AMA's member insurance program. - Don't Lie to Your Insurance Company
If you're in an accident and a discrepancy is discovered between what you told your insurance company about your bike and the bike itself, you could have some problems. If you make major modifications to your bike, let your insurance company know in writing. - Bundle Your Insurance
Insuring your home, vehicles, and motorcycle with the same company could earn you a large discount. When you go insurance shopping, don't limit yourself to just motorcycle insurance agencies.
